A unique opportunity to Practice Medicine and learn Disaster Medical Management while contributing to world need.

Physicians must send in their completed "Volunteer Application Package" a minimum of 60 days prior to their departure date, and dentists must give a minimum of 45 days. All applications will be reviewed, and applicants accepted to volunteer by both the H.E.L.P. Foundation as well as the Phangnga Provincial Public Health Office. ND's, MD's and Dentists interested in volunteering, please send a cover letter and resume to Executive Director Marilyn Lawrie. Print Volunteer Application Package
In late 2008, the H.E.L.P. Foundation will launch its inaugural Disaster Medical Management Program - the first of its kind available to Canadian physicians. The faculty will include Drs Karen and Gurdev Parmar, naturopathic physicians qualified as trainers for Basic and Advanced Disaster Life Support (BDLS and ADLS). Dr. Allan Holmes, an ER physician who owns and operates Global Medical Services will teach the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Dr. Dave McCann, also an ER doc with lots of disaster and emergency procedures experience will round out the core faculty. Lecturers will also be brought in to help the core faculty teach some of the basics in tropical medicine. Brigades of volunteers who have completed this training program in Langley, BC will then complete the hands-on practical applications at the H.E.L.P. Foundation Clinic on beautiful Kho Khao Island, in Thailand. Physicians who attend will be completely capable and ready to provide community leadership in any disaster, anywhere. 2009 will see H.E.L.P. Foundation hire its first full-time 1-year contract doctor and its first year of quarterly brigades trained in our program.
There is a residence adjacent to the clinic called the "H.E.L.P. House". It is a two-bedroom, two-storey unit with a kitchen, washroom, and living room on the ground floor, and the two bedrooms on the second floor. It has recently been renovated by our volunteers the Kazakoff Family from Langley B.C. - complete with a repaired roof, new tile floors, and new bathroom (toilet, sink, shower). New beds, wardrobes, and air conditioning units make the bedrooms quite comfortable. The living area and kitchen boast new cooking plate, microwave, shelving, T.V., DVD, and funky furniture. We are happy to make this residence available to our volunteers. |
